What is EMDR?

  • EMDR, is a therapy technique that helps people work through difficult memories, especially those related to trauma, in a really gentle and structured way.

    It involves recalling the memory while engaging in bilateral stimulation like following a light with your eyes or auditory tones. It's giving your brain a chance to reprocess those tough memories so they're not so distressing anymore.

    Thus relieving many symptoms associated with PTSD/C-PTSD such as flashbacks, feelings of guilt or shame, or feeling “on edge”.

  • We will work closely together to identify specific memories or experiences causing distress. Then, while focusing on these targets, you'll engage in sets of bilateral stimulation, like eye movements or taps. This helps your brain process the memory in a less distressing way. Throughout the session, I will ensure you feel safe and supported, and afterward, you'll have a chance to reflect on your experience together. It's a collaborative and structured process aimed at reducing emotional distress and promoting healing.

  • This is highly individualized. This depends on many factors such as session length, target memory, your ability to ground during distress…etc. Consider an EMDR intensive to accelerate symptom relief!

  • If you have experienced symptoms related to PTSD/C-PTSD, traumatic events such as physical or sexual assault, childhood abuse, or grief and loss. EMDR has also been shown to be effective for folks with addiction or substance abuse issues by helping address underlying trauma contributing to addictive behaviors.
